Hide the Word
Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
If you are anything like me sometimes there is a drought in your spiritual life. The Bible seems boring (like your reading plan has you working through Leviticus). Church doesn’t excite you (how many times are we going to sing the same songs). Other Christians disappoint you (Chick-Fil-A day). Or life has just gotten the best of you with all the challenge and struggle you’ve been facing. During these droughts it can be easy to give up on your faith. “I gave it a shot” you say, “and it didn’t work out.” The top of the mountain was exciting, but the valley is too much to bear. Maybe you were sold a version of Christianity that said everything was going to be great from now on so when you made a decision for Christ you thought you’d always live on the mountain – and now you realize that isn’t true.
Here is my encouragement to you: remain faithful in the desert because the desert reveals what is hidden.
Perhaps this is why scripture tells us to hide God’s Word in our hearts! What is hidden in your heart comes out in a time of trouble. You can be anybody on the mountain. You can only be yourself in the desert valley. So, if you proactively hide God’s Word in your heart during all seasons, His Word will come to you in the desert to give you encouragement.
If you wait until the desert to hide His Word, sin may already have gripped your heart. So even when Church seems boring. Even when other’s disappoint. Even when life is getting the best of you; remain faithful. On the other side of the valley is another mountaintop.
