PRESENT

Our worship services are designed to help you encounter Christ, the savior of the world.

PURSUE

As a community, we are pursuing what it means to follow Christ in today’s world.

PARTNER

Our faith calls us to give our lives away in service to others.

DEFINING MARKS

These defining marks describe what makes our church unique, particularly in the evangelical space. If you find them compelling, join us for worship one or every Sunday. We’d love to have you.

We teach, preach, and practice citizenship in God’s Kingdom.

As the people of God, our allegiance belongs to Christ. We approach life and culture from a Kingdom of God perspective. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we faithfully engage the world with the hope of the Gospel and participate in God’s renewal of all things. This inspires us to live with compassion, demonstrate love, lament when necessary, and celebrate the goodness of God.

We shape our worship to retell the story of Jesus.

As a community, we follow the seasons of the Christian calendar (e.g. Advent, Lent, Eastertide, Pentecost). Each week, our worship consists of celebration, confession, assurance of forgiveness, the preached Word, and communion. We believe these patterns are forming us into the likeness of Jesus.

We pursue intergenerational ministry.

As a church, we believe every generation brings value to our community. Therefore, we intentionally connect all generations through worship, service, and fellowship. This promotes spiritual formation and provides a sense of belonging for all ages.

OUR BELIEFS

As a community of Christ, we are rooted in the grand tradition of the Christian religion and find solidarity with brothers and sisters of all Christian traditions. We affirm historic Christian orthodoxy as communicated by one of the earliest and most universally accepted Christian creeds, The Apostles’ Creed, which says:

We believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic (universal) church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
AMEN.

We are also rooted in a global denomination, the Church of the Nazarene, that is committed to being in theological conversation to discern what it means to follow Jesus and live out the Gospel in this time. While remaining true to the theological commitments of our denomination, the following articulation of belief belongs to Emmaus Road Church.

We believe God is Creator of the universe and exists as Trinity in three persons – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These three have eternally existed together and are co-equal with each other.

We believe Jesus is the Living Word & only Son of God. As such, he answers the all-important question, “What is God like?” Through his life, death, and resurrection, Jesus demonstrates the kingdom of God and has accomplished the salvation of all who call on him in faith.

We believe the Holy Spirit is active in our world bringing people awareness of their need for God and empowering Christians for right living. Each Christian is designed to reach a point in their journey with God where the Spirit fills their heart completely with his love. This love spills out in love for God and love for neighbor.

We believe human beings are made in the image of God to reflect his glory and holy character to the world. However, through the Fall we are scarred by sin. Sin, personal and systemic, has led to slavery and death and corrupted the image of God in us.

We believe the essence of salvation is being rescued from slavery to sin that leads to death. Our salvation is accomplished through the self-sacrificial love of Christ on the cross. The scope of Christ’s salvation extends to creation itself.

We believe the Bible was written by human authors under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is a unified story that leads to Christ and contains all truth necessary for our faith and Christian living.

We believe the Church is the global body of believers. The Church’s purpose is to embody the life of the kingdom of God and invite the world into that life.

We believe Christ will return, and at his return, all things will be made new.

WHY ARE WE CALLED EMMAUS ROAD?

In Luke 24, the Bible tells the story of two disciples traveling along the road from Jerusalem to a town called Emmaus. As they journeyed, they spoke of a man named Jesus who had performed many miracles, was crucified and now rumored to have risen from the dead…
