Romans 8 Reflections, Part 5 – No Condemnation
Sermon Scripture: Romans 8:1-4 (NRSV)
Here’s the truth: “For God has done what the law could not do by sending his own Son, to deal with sin.” (Romans 8:3) God condemned sin in the flesh of Jesus in order to break to power of sin in our lives! Therefore, we no longer stand condemned under the power of sin! Sin entered into the life and body of Jesus and there its power was exhausted.
Since sin has been condemned, there is no condemnation for us! There is no doubt about God’s verdict about you – he is for you! You don’t have to live in fear of God or judgement – God has made up his mind about you.
So that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us! We are free to live with a new allegiance. Remember that those who bear the ring, must bear the weight of being under the influence of the ring. But to release the ring is to be made free from it’s power! Freedom from the slavery of sin. Freedom to allegiance to the God of mercy.
