Justice Series Resources
Justice Series Resources
One of our goals as a faith community is to help resource you for your own faith development and growth. To help do this, we’ll periodically release a list of resources that will help you process ideas and concepts in recent sermon series. Listed below are resources that have been helpful to Pastor Andy during his study for the Justice series.
1. Justice video: The Bible Project is a nonprofit animation studio that produces short films about the Bible. Their theme video on biblical justice provides a great overview of the justice theme.
2. Justice study guide by The Bible Project
3. Evil & The Justice of God by N.T. Wright: Pastor Andy quoted from this book every week of this series. It is a really great book that addresses themes like the problem of evil (how can God be good if evil exists in the world), human progress, and God’s response to evil. If these themes are of interest to you, you’ll find this book extremely helpful.
4. Unconditional? by Brian Zahnd: This book helped form many of the ideas from our Unforgivable? series in early 2018. However, Pastor Andy returned to this book as a resource for week three of the Justice series because it has a really great chapter on the relationship between forgiveness and justice. This book was quoted in week three of the series. **Note: This book is published in paperback under the title “Radical Forgiveness.”
5. Farewell to Mars by Brian Zahnd: This book was formational in Pastor Andy’s journey toward a nonviolent faith. He quotes it in week three of the Justice series when talking about how the crowd used Jesus as a scapegoat. If you don’t read anything else, chapter three has some really compelling thoughts on scapegoating and the nature of crowd mentality.
6. The Bible Project Podcast: The Bible Project did a series of podcasts on the biblical theme of justice that served as a helpful background for much of the ground covered in the series. They are worth your time to listen!
We hope these resources are helpful to you as you explore faith in Jesus Christ!
