Sermon Scripture: Galatians 5:22-23 (NRSV)

In a nation deeply divided, what we need now more than ever is the clear evidence of God’s Spirit in our lives. Division is so real, even among Christians. Those who disagree on subjects like racism, immigration, violence and gun control can get so nasty toward one another. As Christians, how are we to act in the midst of such division? At the risk of sounding simplistic….we look at the fruit.

Over the next several weeks, we are going to explore the fruit of the Spirit that are listed in Galatians 5. We are doing this first to help us with discernment. We are also exploring the fruit of the spirit as an exercise of introspection – a discernment of self. As we engage with one another and in a world where everything has been politicized (which means everything can be cause for division), how much do our own lives display the fruit of the Spirit?
