Sermon Scripture: James 2

In James chapter two we are reminded; that God doesn’t play favorites with who he welcomes into his family, therefore we shouldn’t either, we will be tempted to take our salvation into our own hands in an effort to buy it or manipulate it, when it remains a work of God all along, and that there are no shortcuts to our salvation. It is a matter of belief and action — not one without the other, but a strong balance of both.

James is debunking the myth that power and status work as currency in God’s kingdom — it doesn’t. Mercy and grace are God’s currency, and when we receive them and freely share them with others in tangible, specific, or even sacrificial acts of compassion and generosity, we are living as we were created to live.
