I regularly fight the temptation of comparing myself to others. Sometimes I think too highly of myself, “I’m a better preacher than they are….”, but most of the time my comparison leads me to a different conclusion, “They are so much better than me…”. I tend to compare myself to other pastors and leaders and determine that my life doesn’t have the potential as theirs.
For example, Steven Furtick is great at illustrations (and he dresses like a rock star). Judah Smith is a phenomenal story-teller, and Perry Noble is bolder than I’ll ever have the courage to be.
The danger is this: When you compare yourself to others it often leads to feelings of inadequacy, and will ultimately steal the potential that God is trying to unleash in your life. God has created you. He loves you. He wants to work through you. He has uniquely gifted you to accomplish significant things for Him.
Stop focusing on them and focus on Him.
