Why Emmaus Road?

(é-may-us)

In Luke 24 the Bible tells the story of two disciples who are traveling along the Emmaus Road. Along their journey another traveler whom they do not recognize joins them. As they journey together they talk about the recent happenings in Jerusalem – that a man named Jesus had performed many miracles, was crucified, and rumored to have rose from the dead. After hearing this their travel companion teaches them all about Jesus. When they arrive in the town of Emmaus they sit down to have a meal together. As they are eating the Bible says, “Christ revealed himself to them through the breaking of bread.” They had been traveling with Christ all along!

We want this story to be a metaphor for who we are and are becoming as a faith community – travelers on a journey with the resurrected Christ. We are all on different points along our journey, but together we seek to travel with Christ and explore what it means to be Christian in today’s world. Our prayer is that Christ would reveal himself as we break bread together through the sacrament of communion. We would love for you to come and journey with us!
